St John’s College Oxford: Founder and Chair of Women’s Network, 2016-present
Founded in 2016, the Women’s Network of St John’s College at Oxford University brings together the Fellows, Alumnae, current students and non-academic staff to celebrate, inspire and empower all the women of St John’s.
I was excited when Prof Maggie Snowling – the first woman to be elected as President of St John’s College, since the College was founded in 1555 – asked me to help her find a way to sustain the excitement of the 2000 Women initiative that celebrated 2000 women matriculating at St John’s since it admitted women in 1979 – just 5 years before I arrived to study Theology amidst of sea of besuited blokes.
Over the past three years we have had a huge amount of fun, and I have learned a lot about Oxford, about the amazing women of the College – and especially from the dynamic students who are poised to make great change in our world.
Information on what the Women’s Network has done and is planning is on the main St John’s website here – and there are extra activities throughout the 2019/2020 academic year as the College celebrates the 40th Anniversary of women being admitted to St John’s and the important journey left to travel to achieve true equality and diversity, to creak open the doors of this elite education and transform more lives.
